ISESS, the International Symposium on Environmental Software Systems, was initiated in 1995 as a forum in which to present and discuss the fundamentals, progress and actual trends in this area in terms of methods, tools and state-of-the-art environmental informatics applications. Over the years, it has also evolved into an important networking tool for academics, environmental professionals, and other interested parties.
ISESS is a conference series organized on behalf of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), WG 5.11 “Computers and Environment”. In odd-numbered years, ISESS is held as a conference with a complete range of topics related to Environmental Information Systems (EIS) and related topics. In even-numbered years ISESS is held as a workshop of the biennial meetings of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (IEMSS) usually focussing on a specific topic.
The 2011 conference is organised by the Masaryk University in cooperation with IFIP, the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic, the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.
The conference will display the state-of-the-art in the development and implementation EIS and eEnvironment services, with a special focus on the following topics:
- eEnvironment and cross-border services in the Digital Agenda for Europe Environmental Information Systems and Services -Infrastructures and Platforms
- Semantics and Environment
- Distributed Environmental Modelling
- Information Tools for Global Environmental Assessment
- Advanced Approaches to Catchment Hydrology Simulation
- Climate services and Environmental Tools for Urban Planning
- General submissions
The conference is a meeting place for experts on leading edge technologies, and it aims to foster the standardization and integration of environmental data and information flows in the world, which are essential pre-requirements for managing our natural resources in a framework of sustainable development. The ISESS 2011 conference is open to governmental institutions, international and intergovernmental organisations, environmental agencies and networks, scientists, academicians, politicians, businesses, public administration and decision makers active in the field of environmental information, experts from ICT industry, specialists of theoretical and applied informatics, consultants, students and the concerned public.
